RIP Gary Moore

March 3rd, 2011

Turre, Al - Article about Gary Moore by Kev Moore and illustrated with a portrait painting of Gary Moore by Miki.
Published in the magazine "The Sentinella", March 2011

GARY MOORE

Spain, and Estapona in particular, played reluctant host to one of Rock music's great tragedies in February. In the early hours of Sunday 6th, Gary Moore left us, found dead of an apparent heart attack by his girlfriend at the beginning of a short holiday. At 58, he was far too young, particularly as he had never fallen into the trap that his great friend and compatriot Phil Lynott did. Moore was a huge guitarist, one of the Top Ten in the world in my opinion, and I don't say that lightly. A top ten that would include Paul Kossoff, Brian May, Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen.

Though in recent years, Moore was known for his close association with the blues, his mastery of the guitar throughout a myriad of genres makes him almost impossible to define, whether it be as a 16 year-old prodigy...

A Modern Way Of Humanitarian Help

March 3rd, 2011

Turre, Al - 3 months ago Emmanuel Baliyanga, contacted me from Cameroon, asking about the possibility of using one of my Obama portraits for a book cover. While discussing the details, Emmanuel gradually opened up, telling me that he was born in Rwanda and later escaped the genocide. He also mentioned being an artist, having studied art and art history since his childhood. Intrigued, I asked him if he had some of his works on the net. He answered
„ In Africa we haven’t the necessary tools to exhibit on the net!“
Well, if there is one thing I know about the net it is that it knows no borders, that something like “Africa” does not really exist, at least not as a third world continent. In the meanwhile we artists have free access to many online galleries allowing us to exhibit and sell our work, no matter where we reside. The only thing needed being an internet connection and digital photos of our paintings. I was amazed to see how fast Emmanuel understood what I meant. I offered to guide...

African Odes And Songs, In Homage To Barack Obama

December 4th, 2010

Turre, Al - I have the pleasure to announce today that one of my Obama portraits, "Yes We Can", has been chosen as a book cover. And what a book!

A book called

"Odes et Chansons Africaines
en Hommage a Barack Obama"

(African Odes and songs, in homage to Barack Obama)

A book written by Marcelline Sibylle Ngono Bene, Doctor in Literature and African Civilisations, Master of Conferences at The University of Yaoundé and General Inspector of Academic Matters at the Ministry of Higher Education.
I adore the fact that my portrait serves this aim, and it will be a very emotional moment for me when I receive my dedicated copy...

I hope I will be able then to translate some of them in English. In fact, I am waiting to get it to see if a translation from French to English of the whole book could be possible. I am quite sure that a lot of people in the world would be interested in the content...

My special thanks to Emmanuel Baliyanga -a great...

Turre, Al - "Miki and her art
Entering Miki’s gallery in Turre is an ocular feast; visceral images full of vibrant colours and shapes line the walls. The first adjective that Miki uses to describe herself with is passionate, of that there can be no doubt, but it is also easy to add talented, experimental and extremely prolific. Miki paints for up to 13 hours a day and has developed new techniques combining digital technology and classical approaches to painting.
Miki’s career started as a mathematician which, to the uninitiated, may seem a world away from that of an artist; that is until you see her work which combines the accuracy and detail of mathematics with colour that flows across which ever medium in which she is working: acrylic, oil, watercolour, gouache or even digital. There is incredible precision in the execution of her art and such expressive movement in her paintings that one is spell bound.
Whilst Miki’s reputation was certainly cemented by her excellent collection...

Painting By Countries

December 1st, 2010

Turre, Al - I do not know how it is with you, but me, I have so many travel plans and dreams in my head that 10 lives would not be enough to fulfil them! My dreams have always been for example, to go to Siberia, China, India, Peru, The Moon, etc. I will certainly do what I can to realise some of them, but for many obvious reasons, not all will be possible. But when one cannot really travel, there is a way to visit places without spending too much money or time, and it is ART. I do love to look at beautiful photos from far away countries, and of course, even more than photos, I adore paintings featuring the beauty of all the places and people in our world.

This is why Ihave started a new project, called Painting by Countries. My aim is to exhibit on my platform as many paintings from around the world (scapes, towns, nature, people, folklore) as possible, the challenge being to gradually cover the globe with paintings, according to the motto: Around the world in Arty...
